The peptide's affinity for copper(II) is what drives most of the effects reported in the literature: copper is a cofactor for lysyl oxidase and superoxide dismutase, and GHK acts as a carrier that changes local copper availability. Studying GHK without copper answers a different question entirely — which is why sourcing the correct complexed form matters.
